Zendala Dare #100!

This week Erin Olson, the Bright Owl, posted the 100th template for Zendala Dare! What an accomplishment! Congratulations, Erin. Here's to the next 100! (Forgive me for all the exclamation points, but it is a special event) Anyway, here's the template:

When I first started working on it, nothing happened; I just couldn't seem to get started. So I put it aside for a while, and did other things. Then I tried again, and got a little done around the outside, but couldn't decide what to do in the center. So I put it aside again, and this time when I came back to it, I had a few too many ideas. But eventually I got them sorted out, and this is what I came up with:
I'm happy with it; I hope you like it.

Joey's Challenge #53; Border Print

First step in this week's challenge over at made by joey:
 tangle a border print
Second step:
tangle an all-over design
Third step:
either combine them both on one tile, or use them on separate tiles and stack one on top of the other to create the border around the all-over design. I chose to do the former, and I did it twice. I couldn't seem to get it right the first time around.

This was the first border I did; but I originally couldn't seem to come up with an all-over pattern to fill it. (I didn't think to scan it at that point)

So I did this one;
the fill pattern quickly followed the border.

It wasn't until I scanned it to my computer that I realized that I hadn't attempted to shade it. After taking a good look at it, I decided that there really didn't seem to be any way to shade it, so I left it as is. Then I went back to the first border and added the all-over fill pattern.

I'm not really happy with these, but I did them, so I'm posting them. Take a look at joey’s site to see the other entries, and maybe try one yourself. And come back next week when I hope to have new and improved tiles for you to see.

Spirals, Spirals Everywhere: Diva's Challenge #210, It's a String Thing #85

This seems to be the week for Spirals
First, the Diva challenged us to use a spiral
as the string for our tiles, and this is what I came up with:

It sort of reminds me of a coiled snake.

I really enjoyed the spiral aspect of this challenge; so I found myself doing a bunch of spirals. This is one I especially like:

Then, Adele Bruno, @ Tickled to Tangle, gave us this string for It's a String Thing:

along with
Mumsy by CZT Sandy Bartholomew
Printemps by Zentangle® co-founder Maria Thomas
and
Kelp by Nancy Domnauer

I started out by putting Mumsy in the center, 3 rows of Kelp along the string line, and Printemps sprinkled around the corners:
It did NOTHING for me. I never even attempted to shade it, because it just didn't seem like anything I wanted to show anyone. (Now that I see it up on my computer screen, I realize that it probably would have benefited from some shading) But in true Zentangle fashion, I am posting my first tile; but it's definitely NOT my last.

After reading Adele Bruno's Tips for Tangling Mumsy, I started playing around with it, and couldn't stop; I was having too much fun. I finally came up with the idea of actually spiraling the petals along the string. Will I be the only one to think of that? Probably not; but
this is what I came up with:
I kept thinking I should find a way to add the other 2 tangles that are part of the challenge, because I like them both. But for a change, I decided to leave well enough alone and stop while I was ahead. At least I felt like it was DONE!

Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, when she offers the new ones.

So that's it for my spirals this week, but I have a feeling that they'll be showing up here and there in the future.

Joey's #52!and String Thing #84

Well, it's been a year of tangle challenges on
Joey's site: madebyjoey
and to celebrate 52 weeks,
we are tangling Rose´, in a sphere.
Here's mine
Take a look at joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.

This week's It's a String Thing #84
uses String #83 by Anne Marks

with Antique by Kathy Barringer, CZT
Amphora by Lily Moon
Amoeba by Linda Dawson
Arrow Heads by Linda Farmer, CZT

When I first started playing around with these tangles,
Antique and Amphora were in different places. But when I actually started working on the tile, in true Zentangle fashion, they got reversed.

I used Antique, Amphora, and Arrow Heads.
Amoeba just didn't fit in.

Mooka Meets Tipple=Son of Squid?

Square One's focus tangle this week is Mooka, and as I started playing around with it, I thought it would pair up well with Tipple to create an offshoot of Squid:

After I added the Tipple, I wasn't so sure; I thought Mooka had looked better without it. So I did a second one just of Mooka; and here it is:

Check out the other responses to Square One here. The premise is to go back to the basics and the Zen of Zentangle. Try it out.

St. Patty's

I've barely had a chance to do something Green for the Diva's Challenge for St. Patty's Day. I really kind of threw this together; you can tell, I'm sure.
But I did get it posted while it's still St. Patrick's Day.

I hope to get the rest of this week's challenges posted within a reasonable time. Part of the problem is that I keep adding challenges; I've become quite addicted, can't you tell?

Be sure to visit the Diva's site to see the other wonderful entries; it's amazing how different all the responses are. Maybe you'll be inspired to try out one of the Challenges yourself.

Zendala Dare #99

When I started working on Zendala Dare #99 the other day, I had no idea that so many different variations would keep popping into my head. The differences are not great, but just enough that I don't know which to post. (Is there a pattern here?Do you sense that I'm a little/a lot indecisive. Or just not confident enough to make a decision and stick to it.) So here we are again with 3 interpretations of the same template:

Here they are:
I used Meer, Vortex, and a tangleation of Unyun in all 3; in the 2nd and 3rd I added a mini version of Onomato, and in the 3rd I also added Tipple.

So there you have it (or them). I hope you enjoy them,
and let me know which you profer.

Be sure to visit the the Bright Owl's site; see the other wonderful entries, and maybe try out one of the Zendala Dares yourself.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you enjoyed my tiles.

It's St. Patrick's Day, almost

As we move into the last few days before St. Patrick's Day, here's a shamrock themed tile for It's a String Thing #83
Using Adele Bruno's String
and the tangles Sh'rock by  Diane LaChance, CZT
and Lucky by Adele Bruno, CZT

Here's what I came up with, using mostly
tangleations of Lucky:
And after tweaking it a bit on one of my photo editors:

See you all again, soon.
