Another Stack of Fun

Since Butterflies are my thing, I could hardly let the
Repeated Pattern Stack Challenge
go by without doing a Stack of Butterflies. So here it is:

These stacks are really a lot of fun to do. Thanks to Judy West and Cindy at The Rainbow Elephant. Be sure to visit their sites for more info about Repeat Pattern Stacks, and to get a gander at all the great Stacks done by all the talented artists.

Thanks for visiting, and leave a comment, favorable or not. That's how we learn and grow; and how we know someone out there is paying attention. See you all next time.

Here's a New Challenge: Repeat Pattern Stacks

Judy West's present challenge is to create a Repeat Pattern Stack. On the Rainbow Elephant website you'll find a description and a video showing how to make a Repeat Pattern Stack. It's a really fun concept; you might want to try it.

In the meantime, here's my first foray into this area:
Along with Cindy's site (Rainbow Elephant), be sure to check out Judy's and see more fun stacks.

Tipple: Love it or Hate it

Every time I look at String #11 I see a decanter and a glass. So when Laura, the Diva, proposed a Challenge using Tipple, it was only natural that I would come up with a bottle of bubbly and a glass to pour it into (even if it's the wrong kind of glass) followed by some bubbles. Now, Laura has also stated that everyone either loves Tipple or hates it. If they hate it, it's because they consider it tedious having to fill a space with all those little circles. But I find it truly Zen-like adding one circle after another; it really requires little thought: just Breathe and Do it. So this is my first entry into this week's Diva's Challenge.

After I finished the first one, I went off in a totally different direction for my second one:
Hope you like them, or even just one of them.

Please leave a comment, and don't be shy; constructive criticism is helpful, too.

Be sure to go to the Diva's site to find out about the Challenges and see all the fabulous art done in response to them.

I Guess It Can Be Done

Well, I practiced using my left hand some more, and tried another Non-Domonotangle. I think if I kept on working at it, I might eventually get pretty good at using my left hand. The thing that quite surprises me is that my left-handed drawing is not nearly as bad as my left-handed writing. The thing about it that I find surprising is that I use to be able to write pretty well with my left hand. Now it's gotten really bad; or at least, very childish looking.  Don't get me wrong, it is legible, just very sloppy.

Anyway, as I said, I did try another tile, and it came out all right. I learned that I have to go slow, and found that I needed to turn the tile more often than usually. When making curved lines, I did better doing them from one side than from the other. And straight lines were easier vertically than horizontally. So, with a little adapting, and some more practice, one might get pretty good at it.

That said, here's my 2nd Non-Domontangle:

I urge you to visit the Diva's site to learn more about
the challenges, and most of all to see the
amazing art being created in response.

Till next time; thanks for visiting. And, as usual,
 comments are always welcome.

Diva's Challenge #132,

This is the 2nd Monotangle Diva's Challenge in a row: this time use Bales as the focus, but with the extra twist of using your non-dominant hand. Not so easy! When I first tried it, I realized that I would have to practice using my left hand for a while before I could even attempt doing the challenge. Even after I used my left hand to make a few stabs at it, I realized that I will probably have to play around at it on a more regular basis before I can get any good at it. And after checking out some of the other artists' work, I realized that I probably had bit off a little more than I could chew. But here it is, for all it's worth:

I urge you to visit the Diva's site to learn more about
the challenges, and most of all to see the
amazing art being created in response.

Till next time; thanks for visiting. And, as usual,
 comments are always welcome.

Dex Monotangle, Pt. 2

Apparently, when I posted my first attempt at the Diva's Challenge for this week, I posted an invalid URL, and not everyone who tried the link got through.

This was that first post:
I've been playing around with the Diva's Challenge this week: Make a Monotangle using only Dex. This is what I came up with so far. Not very inventive, but I'm not entirely unhappy with it.

Since then I've done a little more playing around with Dex,
and came up with this. It's still very minimal,
but I kind of like it. I used a Sakura Pigma Micron 01 Black pen
on a 3 1/2" square of Gray Granite paper.
I urge you to visit the Diva's site to learn more about
the challenges, and most of all to see the
amazing art being created in response.

Till next time; thanks for visiting. And, as usual,
 comments are always welcome.

Dex Monotangle. Diva Challenge #131

I've been playing around with the Diva's Challenge this week: make a Monotangle using only Dex. This is what I came up with so far. Not very inventive, but I'm not entirely unhappy with it.

Be sure to go to I Am the Diva to see all the other (much more inventive) versions of this challenge.

Thanks for visiting. As always, comments are welcome: negative as well as positive.

Celtic Challenge #31

Judy West, of Creative Doodling with Judy West has issued Celtic Challenge #31. This challenge charges one to fill in every one of the segments (there are 40 of them) with a different pattern. And then, because of the nature of a Celtic Knot, shade the design to emphasize the over and under weave.

I had never done this challenge before; didn't even know about it till I stumbled upon it a week or so ago. Since then, I've been playing around with it till I felt I had something worth posting.

I think this fits the bill. I may try another if I have time before the challenge runs out.

Be sure to check out Judy's site (link above) to see all the other entries. And comments are always welcome here. I'd like to know what you think, whether it's complimentary or critical.
See you next time.

I started working on my 2nd entry into the Diva's Challenge #130, using the prescribed tangle, Jane MacKugler's Henna Drum. After drawing that tangle on my tile, I looked at it and thought, "What could I possibly add to this that would enhance it or make it better in any way?" And my answer to myself was "Nothing." I'm going to post it here as is, and think about it before doing anything else with it.  I may try another one; I'll have to think about that, too.

After thinking about it during the day, I decided to leave it
as a Monotangle, but to introduce some color:

I still can't decide, so you be the judge. Please leave a comment, and let me know what you think.

In the meantime, thanks to Jane for a lovely tangle; one that I'd never used before but certainly will in the future. And thanks again to Laura for the Challenges. Please go over to her site, IamTheDiva to learn more about the challenges, and to see all the other great responses.

Diva's Weekly Challenge #130 UMT v. XIX: Henna Drum

The first week of every month the Diva's Challenge is UMT (Use My Tangle), where we are all challenged to use the specific tangle of her choice. This week it is Henna Drum, by CZT Jane MacKugler. I've never used this tangle before; I've admired it, but thought it would be hard to combine with other tangles. But while looking through the strings, String #1 just jumped off the page and told me what to do.

After rotating the string clockwise, this is what I came up with:
