IAST #197

This is Adele Bruno's string for this week's String Thing:

and the tangle patterns to use are
Antidots, Bales, and Tint.
Here's my version; using all 3 tangles, and filling in
the spaces with Tipple:

Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. Although, actually, it's usually more Monday evening before they're posted. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, or evening, when she offers the new ones.

Diva's Challenge #317: Photo Tangles

The Diva came up with a unique, really different idea for
this week's challenge: use an image as the string, and
 tangle around it. You can use a photo, or a copy of a photo,
or an image that you find on the Web or in a magazine.

Since I love butterflies (hence the name of my blog, and
my studio) I was going to use a picture of a butterfly;
a real butterfly. But then I thought, better still would be a
picture of one of my glass butterfly beads. In my other life,
 I'm a glass worker, specifically a glass beadmaker. I make
glass beads to be used as the focal points of jewelry;
and of course have many pictures of them.

So I cut out a picture of one of my butterfly beads, glued
it on a tile, and tangled around it. And here it is:
I'm happy with it, although the glass probably
doesn't show up as well as I'd like.

Be sure to visit the Diva's site to see the other wonderful entries; it's amazing how different all the responses are. Maybe you'll be inspired to try out one of the Challenges yourself.

Diva #310, UMT: Frunky, It's a String Thing #191

I finally managed to do both the Diva's and the String Thing
Challenges for this week. Still not doing things as well as I'd
like, but at least they're decent enough to post them.

First up, being the first Monday of the month, is the Diva's
UMT (use my tangle) challenge, where the tangle to use is
one created by one of us. This time it's Frunky,
 by Katharina Königsbauer-Kolb.

Here's mine, using a 3Z tile:

Over at Tickled to Tangle,
Adele Bruno has posted this string:

and the suggested tangles are:
Echoism, Keeko, Mel Mel, and Zenith.

Somehow, I managed to include them all:
Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. Although, actually, it's usually more Monday evening before they're posted. Joey's Finish my Tile Alphabet Challenge: LeeLee

Joey's Finish my Tile Alphabet challenge is at L,
and the tangle is Lee Lee. Here's her tile:

and here's mine. Unfortunately, I'm still not
back to 100%; so this is probably one of my
worst attempts; really sloppy to say the least.
But I just didn't want to skip it. That may have been
a mistake. Hopefully, next week I'll be able to do better.

Joey's #156, Finish my Alphabet Tile #Kiss

Joey's Finish My Tile Alphabet challenge was
up to the letter K, last week, and the tangle was Kiss.
Here's her beginning tile:

Here's mine, rather late; and rather primitive,
as I wasn't doing very well. But better late than not at all:
Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself. I'll do my best to get
this week's in on time.

Joey's Finish My Tile Alphabet Challenge, #152, and Diva #303; Valentangle

Joey's  Finish My Tile Alphabet Challenge is up to the letter G,
and here is her tile featuring Gnarly:

Here's how I finished it; another Monotangle:

The Diva's challenge this week is to create a Valentine themed
 card or tile; and give it to someone you love.I had already
 started a card for my husband; so I finished it and figured
 it would do double duty: the Diva's Challenge, and a
Valentine's day card for my husband.

First, I took some stationary that I have, and copied the
pattern onto 90 pound paper. It makes great cards and tiles.
Then I used a few different shades of purple pens. And, Voila;
a Valentine for my husband, and a tile for the Diva's challenge.

Joey"s Challenge #151: Finish My Tile, Festune

This week, Joey's Finish My Tile Challenge is/was Festune.
Here's Joey's tile:

And this is my tile:
Probably not my best effort. but at least I finished it.
This was not a great week for me; I had a colonoscopy
on Thursday. The actual procedure was done under
a general anesthetic, so I was out for the whole time.
But the prep was no fun; and I didn't get the time to
work on the challenge till last night. And of course,
I really wasn't able to finish it till today.
So what you see is what you get.

No chance to do any of the other challenges; but I
really wanted to do this one, continuing my
monotangles for Joey's Alphabet challenges.

Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.

Joey #150, Diva #301

Joey's challenge #150 continues the Finish My Tile
format, along with the use of alphabet strings, with
 corresponding tangles of the same letter. Since this is the
  fifth challenge of this format, we are on the letter E.

Here's Joey's beginning tile, using El Prado, on a ZIA/ATC:
And here's my tile, continuing my self-imposed
challenge of doing monotangles for this series:

  I decided to try it in color; but I'm not so sure that
I like it as much as the black on white.

 Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.

The Diva's challenge this week is to do a DuoTangle
using Paradox and Diva Dance, 2 of my favorites.
Actually, probably 2 of everyone's favorites. Anyway,
she featured a video of Rick doing a duotangle where
he wove Diva Dance in and out of Paradox. It was
fascinating, and I've been trying to use that technique,
but with minimal success. So here's my 1st try on a 3Z
tile. There's not enough Diva Dance in it. but in the
spirit of the Diva's challenge, I'm posting my first try.

Diva #300 and Joey #149,

This week marked the 300th challenge from the Diva;
and it's the annual Moebius Syndrome Awareness challenge.
Can you believe it? 300 challenges. Laura Harms, the Diva,
has been issuing weekly challenges for 6 years.

Laura's son, Artoo,  was born with this syndrome
(it's not a disease);  find out more about it on her blog:
I am the Diva . And she poses the Moebius Syndrome
Awareness challenge every year during the week
 of Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day, which was
Tuesday, I believe. And Purple is the color of the day;
which is right up my alley, since I am definitely
a Purple Person.

This is the Moebius Foundation's logo; which is
used as the string for this challenge:

But I tweaked it a bit. Here is my tile:

Unfortunately, I got a little behind on my challenges this week,
which is why I'm posting my tile at the 11th hour. Better late
than never. I hope you like it.

Be sure to visit the Diva's site to see the other wonderful entries; it's amazing how different all the responses are. Maybe you'll be inspired to try out one of the Challenges yourself.

Joey's Challenge #149
Joey's challenge #149 continues the Finish My Tile
format. But this series uses alphabet strings, with
 corresponding tangles of the same letter. Since this is the
  fourth challenge of this format, we are on the letterD.
Here's Joey's beginning tile, using Dicso, on a ZIA/ATC:

And here's my tile; a monotangle as usual:

I originally wanted to do this challenge in color. But
it really wasn't working; so after a few tries I just gave
up and did it in black on white, with graphite shading.

Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.

Sunday, January 22, 2017

Well, here I am again, at the last possible moment,
finally posting my challenge tiles for this past week.
I'll try to make this short and sweet, because it's late,
and I really need to go to bed.

The first one I started (but actually the last one I finished)
 was Joey's Challenge #148. Along with Finish my Tile
 challenges, Joey is continuing the alphabet theme:
using the letter C as the string, and Catkin as the tangle.
Here's her tile:

And here's mine, still a monotangle
Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.

````````````````````````````````````
Next up is It's a String Thing, from Adele Bruno,
at Tickled to Tangle. Here's her string:
using Fassett, Paradox, and Trimonds
and here's mine:
I love Paradox; and I like Fassett as well. And before
I realized it, I had filled the tile with those 2 tangles,
leaving no room for Trimonds. In fact, it came out
quite busy, but I like it anyway.
Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. Although, actually, it's usually more Monday evening before they're posted. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, or evening, when she offers the new ones.
 `````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Last is the Diva's Challenge, which was to use the
new, terrific tangle, Drawings. I had run out of time;
but wanted to submit a Drawings tile. And, luckily,
I had one that I did for another challenge earlier.
So here it is:
This is another tangle that I really love.
Be sure to visit the Diva's site to see the other wonderful entries; it's amazing how different all the responses are. Maybe you'll be inspired to try out one of the Challenges yourself.

Joey's Challenge #147, and Diva's #298

Joey's challenge #147 continues the Finish My Tile
format. But this series uses alphabet strings, with
 corresponding tangles of the same letter. Since this is the
 second challenge of this format, we are on the letter B.
Here's Joey's beginning tile, using B-Twixt, on a ZIA/ATC:

And a little late this week, but here's my tile. As you can
 see, I'm still determined to do these as a monotangle.
Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.

Diva's Weekly Challenge #298:

The first Monday of every month is a Use My Tangle
challenge; where the challenge is to use a tangle
created by one of the tanglers.

This UMT is Orbs-la-Dee by Anneke van Dam

Here's my tile; also including Paushalov:

Black & White, and Gray all over; Again

Since I've been doing so many gray tiles, using
black, gray, and white pens on gray paper; I decided
to try Sonya Yencer's 14 Shades of Gray technique. It
turns out to be totally different from the way I've been
doing my gray tiles. So it just gives me another way to
explore gray. Here's the 1st tile I did in this technique:
Now I have to see what else I can do with it.

Check out the 14 Shades of Gray group on Facebook
to see what it’s all about.

Joey #146, and It's A String Thing #178

Joey is continuing her Finish My Tile challenges,
(Thank You, Joey) but with an added twist:
For the next 26 challenges, she will provide a letter string,
and the appropriate letter tangle. This is, obviously, an A
string; and the tangle is A-dalfa. It's on a ZIA tile, actually
an ATC; Artist Trading Card: 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"
In my usual fashion, I did a monotangle, Black on Gray:
 I'm rather fond of this one, and think I may do some
more gray tiles; especially since I just sent away for
Sonya Yencer's 14 Shades of Gray.  I had already done
some gray tiles before, to quite good results; and I would
like to take it  further.

Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````
At Tickled to Tangle, this is the string:
and the tangles to use are:
MySwing by Simone Menzel, CZT,
Zonked by Barbara Finwall,
and Panthe by Nancy Newlin
I really struggled with these tangles, in order to get
 them all to play well together. I finally decided to put
 them on a gray tile; which I had already used in my tile
 for Joey's challenge (see above), and do My Swing
in white, to make it stand out against the other 2
busier, grid based (also more geometric) tangles.
 That seems to have worked, more or less; at least
  to keep them all from fighting together. It wasn't till
I scanned it that I realized it was on the tile lopsized.
 But I wasn't going to try to remedy that at this late date.
 So what you see is what you get.
Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. Although, actually, it's usually more Monday evening before they're posted. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, or evening, when she offers the new ones.
Square One; Drawings, Icanthis, and Stella
As usual, I'm playing Catch-up, this time on Square One;
with the focus tangles: Drawings, Icanthis, and Stella.
I really like all these tangles, although I still haven't
mastered Icanthis quite the way I'd like. But it's a start.
Check out the Square One/Purely Zentangle group
on Facebook, and see all the other entries.
Square One has you going back to the basics.
Try it, you may like it.
