Knightsbridge and Tipple, Again

This will be a very brief post. I've just spent nearly 2 hours trying to scan my tile and import it into my photo application so I could post it here. I won't go into details, but needless to say, I'm totally frazzled and I want to go to bed.

I decided to try a second entry into the Diva's Challenge (now I'm not so sure it was a good idea). Anyway, here it is:

Diva's Challenge #137, Knightsbridge and Tipple.

The Diva's Challenge #137, is to create a duotangle using Knightsbridge and Tipple. I love Tipple, but I have to admit that I haven't been using Knightsbridge much. That said, here's my first response to the challenge:

I tried to use as many different variations of Knightsbridge as I could think of, but of course, by the time I was through, others occurred to me. So that opens the door for another attempt. I'm OK with this one, but not ecstatic over it. We'll have to see what I come up with next.

Be sure to visit the Diva's blog to check out all the other responses,
and maybe to take a stab at it yourself.

Wrong Week's Challenge.

Warning, I just found out that this is last week's challenge. I'm posting it anyway, since it's done, but now I'll start working on this week's challenge, and post it when ready.

I just discovered another new challenge: It's a String Thing, from CZT Adele Bruno. She supplies the String, and a letter of the alphabet, with which all tangles or patterns used must begin. The challenges are issued on Tuesdays. This week the String is #007, and the letter is B.

There are quite a few Tangles and Patterns that begin with the letter B;
I chose: BTL Joos, Bilt, BlueBonnets, and Birds on a Wire.

Zendala Dare #74

This is the new template offered by the Bright Owl.

And this is my first attempt at interpreting it:

It's probably not my best, but I'm OK with it. I'm curious what the reaction to it will be.

Be sure to check out Erin's site; the Bright Owl, to find out about her Zendala Dares, see all the entries, and perhaps try it yourself.

Color, Color and more Color

This is my second entry for the Color, Color, Everywhere Challenge; #136 from the Diva, Laura Harms. Her challenges are diverse and, of course, challenging goes without saying. If you visit her site, you will not only find out about the challenges and get to see all the amazing responses, but you can try your hand at the latest one. Just click on this link, and you will be magically transported to Laura Harms' iamthediva

This week's challenge is to use color; a little or a lot. As I said above, this is the 2nd one I've done. It's similar, but not exactly like, one of the tiles I did for the Tipple Challenge. I just really liked it and thought it would look good in color. So I used the same patterns: Tipple and Flux, and added a bit of Antidots; but laid it out on a slightly different String.
I have just been reading LeeAnn Denzer's Coloring Tutorial, and used some of her ideas here.  Thank you, LeeAnn. I did the drawing with the 01 and 03 Micron pens, used my Prismacolor pencils in Spring Green, Olive Green and Mulberry, and then partially overlaid all of it with True Blue. I really like the effect; I hope you do, too.

Zendala Dare #73, 2nd try

I decided to try one more Zendala using this template:

This time I didn't want to make it so overtly flowery. I started the outer round using Paradox, in spite of the curved shape, and then Tagh for the next round, and suddenly found myself at a loss for what to use next. Then I remembered a new (to me, anyway) tangle called Flourish, and a tangleation of that went next, followed by Brax. I used my own idea for the center. I have to admit that I struggled with the shading on this one; I'm still not sure I got it right. But all in all, I'm happy with it.

Be sure to visit the Bright Owl to find out more about the Zendala Dares, to see other artists' examples, and perhaps to try it yourself.

Color, Color, Everywhere

This week's Challenge from the Diva is to use color. That's the only requirement; no particular tangles or string; just use color. Now, I love color. But I've been hard put to use it very much when tangling. I just haven't seemed to get the hang of incorporating color into my previously (mostly) black and white Zentangles. So I'm struggling with this one.

I started by laying out a rainbow using my Derwent Inktense Watersoluble Ink Pencils, then applied a wash over it. I next drew in the butterfly with the Prismacolor Premier 005 Fine Line Marker. I couldn't find my 005 Micron, and the 01 seemed a little heavy. When I finished, the colors seemed a little pale, so I added a second layer. Then the colors seemed to overpower the butterfly, so I ended up using the Micron 01 after all. It seems a little simplistic, but here it is.

As usual, I urge you to visit the Diva's site; find out about the challenges, see the other artists' entries, and maybe try it out yourself. For more information on Zentangles, go to this site: TanglePatterns/What is a Zentangle?

Zendala Dare #73

The Bright Owl's latest Zendala Dare is to use this template:

And this is my Zendala
I enjoyed doing this one, and will probably do another.

Diva's Challenge #135, "Well", #2

I don't know if this is too late, but I thought I'd submit it anyway. I only had a little time to work on challenges this week, and didn't get around to finishing another "Well" until late this evening. I had so much fun doing the 1st one, (Well is a really versatile tangle) that I had to do another.
Be sure to visit the Diva's site.
You'll learn all about the Challenges, and see how others have interpreted this Tangle.

Zendala Dare #72, Thick or Thin

The Bright Owl's Challenge this week is to use either the thinnest (.005) or the thickest (08) Micron pen, or its equivalent for the entire tile.  I had hoped to do both thick and thin versions for this challenge, but life, and lack of time, got in the way.

So here's my Thick:

Diva's Challenge #135: "Well"

This week's Challenge from the Diva is to use Well, the new tangle from Rick and Maria. This pattern has so many variations and permutations, it's mind boggling. The possibilities are endless. So I decided to use as many of them as I could come up with; and to fit them all in, I used a straightened out and  expanded version of String #51.

I had so much fun with this, that I definitely have to do another; perhaps one that's not so busy.

In the meantime, while you wait to see what else I come up with, be sure to visit the Diva's site.

Diva's Challenge #134, Beamz

The Diva's Challenge this week, being the first week of the month, is a UMT (Use My Tangle) challenge. The tangle that she's chosen is Beamz, by Traci Frogley. You can find the step outs for this pattern Here. I have to admit that I struggled with this tangle; it didn't seem to fall in my comfort zone. And, due to Rosh Hashonah taking up 2 days out of the week, I didn't have as much time to work on it.

This was the first one I came up with.
Not too happy with it; for one thing it seems kind of busy.
I tried shading it to see if that would help.
The difference is very subtle,
but I think I do like the shaded one a bit better.

There's still some time left. Perhaps I'll try another one.
In the meantime, don't forget to check out the Diva's site
to see how others have interpreted this Tangle.

The Latest Challenge: Zendala Dare #71

It seems that I've been trying a lot of new things lately. First it was the Diva's Challenge; which I will continue to do. Then it was the Celtic Challenge from Judy West, followed by the Repeat Pattern Stacks, also from Judy. And now it's the Zendala Dare, from Erin Koetz Olson (also known as the Bright Owl). I expect that I will probably keep on doing all these challenges, as they keep me learning new aspects of Zentangling.

This is what I came up with. Some of the other artists have been looking for ways to camouflage the Hearts & Flowers, but I decided to stayed with that format.

Be sure to visit the Diva, Judy, and the Bright Owl to find out about the challenges, and to see the terrific art done in response. You'll find links to all 3 in the opening paragraph.
