Diva's Challenge #290; Duotangle: N'Zeppel vs. Flux

The Diva's Challenge this past week has been to do a Duotangle
using N'Zeppel and Flux. I've been working on it for quite
while, and almost gave up. It seems that I've not been doing
N'Zeppel quite right, and the first few tiles I tried weren't
working very well. So I spent quite a bit of time playing with
it until I got it right. Or at least more right than  I had been
doing it before. Then it took me a while to do the tile; partly
because I originally wanted to use both versions
(Rick's and Maria's) of Flux. But at the last minute I
decided to just use Rick's version, because Maria's
reminds me too much of Mooka, which is
not one of my favorites.

That said: here's what I ended up with:

It's a String Thing # 168

Here's Adele Bruno's string for this week's String Thing:
time for our annual ode to Cannie Corns;
 better known as Candy Corn

and the tangles to use are: Fang, Florz, and Tira.
I almost didn't fit in Tira, but at the last minute I
added 2 variations.
Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, when she offers the new ones.

Joey's Challenge #136; Finish My Tangle

I was so happy to see that Joey has gone back to the
Finish My Tile challenges. I really enjoyed that
format. This week's challenge uses the tangle Fracas:

As usual on these challenges I did a monotangle.
I originally wanted to do one in color, but I couldn't seem
to get the colors right; so I did one in black and white:
I liked it, but the desire to use color kept nudging me,
so I decided to try one in color, but in a monochrome:
This was more to my liking, but I had to admit that
the black and white was effective, too. So here I am
submitting 2 tiles. I guess that's just my nature.

It's a String Thing, #167

Here is the string which Adele Bruno has conjured
up for String Thing #167:

and the tangles to be used were Ponio and Winflo.
I decided to use white ink on a black tile;
and this is the first tile I did:
It came out well, but I decided to try one with color,
along with the white on black. I had seen a tile that
Ria Matheussen had done using that technique, and
liked the idea so much that I had to try it.
This is the result of that experiment:
Same basic design as the original, but I flipped it on it's side.
They really came out totally different; so I'm posting both.

Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. Diva's Challenge #289: Leafy Goodness, Joey's #135, & Square One: Antique

The Diva's challenge this past week is Leafy Goodness,
focusing on Autumn Leaves. But I live in the desert,
and we don't have any real Autumn; at least in terms
of the wonderful colors we used to have when we lived
in the Midwest. So I had to come up with my own leaves.
I went online, and looked at images of autumn leaves
for inspiration. And this is what I came up with:

This week, Joey strayed away from her Finish My Tile
Challenges. I will really miss them; I enjoyed them immensely.

Instead, she posted this string:
along with these tangles:
Dicso, Drogon, and Msst,
all of which I like.
So, here's mine:

And, last, for now:
the most recent (until today) Focus tangle on Square One
is Antique. I finished the Antique part early in the week; but
I struggled with how to finish it. Every day I would
pick it up and play around with ideas, but nothing
seemed right.
I don't normally object to white space; but this just
seemed unfinished. Until I decided to try Cheesecloth,
on the diagonal. That seemed to wotk; filled in
the empty space without detracting from Antique.

Square One has you going back to the basics.

It's a String Thing #166, Diva's Challenge #288

Over at Tickled to Tangle, Adele Bruno has posted
this week's challenge, perfect for the season.

Adele suggests that this is more likely to be a ZIA,
(Zentangle Inspired Art, for the uninitiated) than
an actual Zentangle; since it is pretty representational.

At any rate, the tangles to be used are as follows:
N'Zeppel and Knightsbridge by Maria Thomas
Antidots by Anita Roby-Lavery, CZT
and Adele's Iza

Mine is definitely a ZIA
As you may notice, I tried something a little
different. I used graphite instead of ink for the
dark areas. I really like the effect.

Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon,
when she offers the new ones.

Also apropos of the season, the Diva's challenge
is to use the official tangle Gourdgeous. I started out
in Black & White, and when I was about halfway done,
decided that it really needed color. So I tabled the first
one, and started another. This is what I came up with:
I'm not sure how well the gold pen I used shows up,
but I think you can get an idea.

Once I finished that one, I decided to go back and finish
the original black and white.
I actually like them both; they each have something
different going on.

Joey's #134, Finish my Tile: Torn Tile

Joey is continuing her Finish my Tile series;
with a little difference, this time. The tile we
have to finish is this; a torn tile.

Using any tangle of our choice.

I had a bit of trouble trying to find a tangle pattern
that would work, since I wanted to continue doing
a monotangle. But I finally settled on Bask-It. I'm not
sure how well I captured the "Torn Paper" aspect;
you be the judge.

Diva #287 and Joey #133

This week being the first Monday of the month, the Diva
issues a UMT (Use My Tangle) Challenge. The tangle is
Dreamcatcher, by Daniel Lamothe.

The pattern is one that just seemed to be perfect for color;
but I also liked it in black and white. So I'm presenting it
both ways:

with this tile, using Relly-Telly-One:

and I am continuing doing them as monotangles:
