IAST #177

The last String Thing challenge of 2016:

Here's Adele's string:
And the tangles to use are:
Joki by Kim Aarts,
Ahh by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas,
and Bublz by Lori Byerly

This is what I came up with:

I'm quite pleased with this one.

Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. Although, actually, it's usually more Monday evening before they're posted. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, or evening, when she offers the new ones.

Joey #145; Finish My Tile/Barber Pole

Joey's last weekly challenge of the year is another
Finish My Tile, using the tangle Barber Pole.

Here's her tile:

and here's my finished tile; a monotangle, as usual:
I really enjoy these Finish My Tile challenges;
I hope Joey continues them in the New Year.

3Z, the 12 Days of Christmas; Days 11 and 12

Well, I finally finished the last 2 tiles in the 3Z
12 Days of Christmas series. I had hoped to finish
before Christmas. But it is Christmas Eve already.
There were just too many things calling for my attention.
I'm just now posting the results; so I guess we'll just
have to say I posted them On Christmas, instead of
By Christmas.

Day 11 added the tangle Icanthis; and Day 12 added
Crazy Huggins. As I did through the whole series, I
included all the previous tangles in each tile. It started
to get a bit crowded, but I did manage to do them all.
 It was a fun challenge: the 3Zs are really a great
 addition to all the other tiles.

So here's Day 11:
and Day 12:

and a mosaic of the 7th through 12th Days:

I had hoped to post a grouping of all 12 tiles; but I'm having
a problem photographing them. It's too big to fit in my scanner,
and it's not photographing very well. So it'll have to wait till
I figure out how to accomplish it.

In the meantime, check out the Square One 3Z group to see all
the entries in this fabulous series.

Wishing you all a Joyous Holiday Season; whether you
celebrate Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanza, or something else;
and a Healthy, Happy, Prosperous New Year. in which the
worst day is no worse than the best day of this past year.

3Z" Days 9 and 10, and Joey's #144

 I finally finished Day 9 (Auraknot), and Day 10 (Drawings)
in the 3Z 12 Days of  Christmas series. And I fully intend
to do Days 11 and 12 tomorrow, so I can at least have
finished  the series before it's officially Christmas

Here's Day 9:
and here's Day 10:
Both tiles also contain all the previous tangles

Z3, Days 7 and 8

Still trying to catch up. I wasn't able to do a tile yesterday.
  Somehow, nothing I tried seemed to work. So I did Day 7
today; the focus tangle was Knightsbridge. And I was still able
 to include all the previous tangles: Molygon, Golden Tipple,
Marasu, Shattuck, Diva Dance, and Tripoli. It's amazing
how much you can fit into that little triangle.

 I'm going to try and do Day 8 tonight; so I'll still be on track to
finish before it actually IS Christmas. The tangle for the 8th Day
is Pokeleaf; I like it a lot. So perhaps that will spur me on to get
another tile done today.

Well, I did it; I finished a tile for Day 8:
Pokeleaf, and all the previous tangles, as well.

3Z, Day 6, and a Mosaic of All 6

Day 6 of the 3Z Twelve Days of Christmas series adds
 Molygon as the focus tangle. Here it is with all the
 previous tangles together: Tripoli, Diva Dance,
 Shattuck, Marasu, and Golden Tipple:
And here are all 6 together:

It's going to take me a while to finish all 12, since I
started so late. And somehow I don't seem to be able
to do more than 1 3Z tile a day. But eventually I'll get
them all done. They're really fun to do. Not just the
12 Days of Christmas, but the 3Z tiles in general.

It's a String Thing #175, Joey #143, and 3Z, Day 5

This week's String Thing provides no String, but requires
a monotangle of Drawings, one of the 2 new official
tangles. This is a really lovely pattern; very flowing and
open to all sorts of variations. This is my first tile using it:

 Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. Although, actually, it's usually more Monday evening before they're posted. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, or evening, when she offers the new ones.

Joey's Challenge is another Finish My Tile, using Verdigogh:

 I did my usual monotangle; but turned the tile :
 Verdigogh has been popping up in a few challenges lately;
so I've had a lot of opportunities to work with it.
It's another fun tangle.

Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.

Day 5 of the 3Z Twelve Days of Christmas series adds
Tipple as the focus tangle, stipulating using a Brown
Micron® 01 and a Metallic Gold GellyRoll®. Here's mine,
still using all the previous tangles along with Tipple:

3Zs 12 Days of Christmas

There's a new tile in town; it's triangular, called 3Z,
and it's taken off like a house afire. The official tiles come
in White, Black, and Renaissance, and look like this:

There is a 12 Days of Christmas series going on which
began on December 3rd; focusing on one tangle a day.
Each day, create a tile using that day's tangle, plus any
or all of the tangles used on previous days.

I came a little late to the party; I didn't start until December
9th. At the time, I still didn't have any of the official 3Z tiles;
so I cut my own, using some watercolor paper. I was
pleasantly surprised to find (after I received the official tiles)
that the paper I used was exactly like the actual 3Z tiles.

At any rate; here are the tiles I've completed so far:

Day 1: Tripoli

Day 2: Diva Dance, and a touch of Tripoli

Day 3: Shattuck, with Diva Dance and Tripoli:

 and Day 4: Marasu, with Shattuck, Diva Dance, and Tripoli:

I'm really enjoying working on these 3Zs. It's amazing how
many tangles you can fit on one of these tiles. I'm not sure I
can continue to use all the tangles on subsequent days, but
I'm going to try doing it.

It's A String Thing #174, 3 versions

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and to reflect that,
 Adele Bruno has given us this string:

with the Tangles Zenith and O

I played around with this a lot, and wasn't sure at first
if I could fit O into the tile. I ended up with 3 different
versions; just couldn't decide which to use. So here are
all 3. See what you think.
Version 1:
 Version 2:
and Version 3:

Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. Although, actually, it's usually more Monday evening before they're posted. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, or evening, when she offers the new ones.

Joey's Challenge #142, and Diva's Challenge #296

Another Finish My Tile challenge from Joey:

Here's my tile; a monotangle, as usual:
Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.
 `````````````````````````````````````````````````````
The Diva's challenge this week is another UMT:
Use My Tangle; and the tangle is Moowa. I'm still
not comfortable with Moowa, as it reminds me too
much of Mooka, of which I am not very fond.  But
it does seem a little more versatile, so I gave it a try.
I decided to do it on one of the new 3Z tiles, which I
really love, as does almost everyone else, it seems.
Probably not my best effort, but considering the tangle
used; it'll do.
Be sure to visit the Diva's site to see the other wonderful entries; it's amazing how different all the responses are. Maybe you'll be inspired to try out one of the Challenges yourself.
Black and White, and Gray All Over
The latest Finish My Tile challenge from Joey
uses the tangle Pipez
 I created a monotangle, as usual: black ink on a gray tile.
 Then I used a white gel pen to fill in the curved areas,
 and finished off with the original version of Pipez in
 the white area, again using black ink.
 I rather like black and white on the gray tiles. So I
 decided to use it for all the other challenges this week.
Take a look at Joey’s site to see the other entries,
and maybe try one yourself.
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Next up is the Diva's Challenge #295:
Reticula/Fragments part 2.

The challenge is to draw a grid, in pen, as it's part of the tangle.
Then fill in each of the little squares with a design. BUT as
another step to this week's challenge - choose a design that
is asymmetrical. Then alternate your design inside your grid -
creating another more complex pattern!

This was the first one I did:
I used the tangle Coral Seeds in the center,
and fragment D1 around the edges.
Then I decided to try another one:
I still used Coral Seeds in the center, but this time
I blacked in the radiating spokes. Then I used
Fragment Z7 around the edges.

I'm getting more comfortable with the format,

and will probably continue to use it.

Be sure to visit the Diva's site to see the other wonderful entries; it's amazing how different all the responses are. Maybe you'll be inspired to try out one of the Challenges yourself.
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````
The last of my Black, White, and Gray tiles is for
It's a String Thing #173. Here's Adele's string:
 and the tangles to use were Verdigogh and Cruffle.
This is what I did with it:
 As you may notice, I turned it sideways.
Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. Although, actually, it's usually more Monday evening before they're posted. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon, or evening, when she offers the new ones.
 ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````
So that's my experiment for this week.
I'm pretty happy with the results.
