Joey's Challenge #118; Maryhill

This week Joey is continuing using Circular strings:

The tangle chosen to use is Maryhill, but NOT in the
central circle. So the fist tile I came up with is this:
I used Crescent Moon in the center, and alternated
the direction of Maryhill, producing a starlike shape
around it. It was OK, but I wasn't completely satisfied
with it. So I went back to using a circular tile; which
I've been doing a lot of lately. In the center, I used Citrus,
by Adele Bruno, then put Maryhill next, and finished up
with an as yet untitled pattern that I've beenworking on:
I am much more satisfied with this one.

Diva's Challenge #272, "Black & White and Red All Over"

The Diva's theme this week is to add red to the traditional
black and white. Now, I am not a fan of red, but I have to
admit that it really goes well with black and white.

I've been on a round tile kick for a few weeks, some Zendalas,
and some not. One of the Zendalas seemed perfect to add red to,
so I decided to use it. I really like the way it turned out.

Be sure to visit the Diva's site to see the other wonderful entries; it's amazing how different all the responses are. Maybe you'll be inspired to try out one of the Challenges yourself.

Joey #117

Here's the second of Joey's series of circle strings:

and the suggested tangle pattern is Socc.
I haven't really used this pattern, except for laying out
the steps in my sketch book; but I discovered that I really
like it. And I'm sure I will make more use of it in the future.

It's a String Thing #148

For this week's String Thing, we are using the tangle Fengle
as the string; and of course, I forgot to scan my version
before I filled it with other tangles. But I'm sure you can get
the idea. I used a 6 pointed Fengle, and filled it with
Paradox and B'tweed. I used a variation of Onamato
and a pattern that I don't know the name of (or even if
it actually is a pattern) to outline the individual sections.

Be sure to check out all the entries @ Tickled to Tangle, on Monday afternoon, when Adele Bruno posts them. The vast differences that can be achieved using the same tangles on the same string are truly incredible. And, if you've a mind to try a String Thing yourself, check back on Tuesday afternoon,
when she offers the new ones.

Joey's Weekly Challenge #116; Circular String with Flux

This last week, I started doing a series of circular tiles;
some Zendalas, but not all. Imagine my surprise when
this week Joey embarked on a new series of challenges;
using circular strings. So I felt right at home with it.
This is the first:

And the suggested tangle is Flux.

I used Rick's version of Flux, and a little bit of Tipple:
At first I was going to fill in the background,
but I finally decided that I really like the negative space.
On rereading Joey's post, I noticed that she was planning
to do the whole series on brown circle tiles,
for a Renaissance look. I really like that idea,
so I did a second tile on a beige background:
I'm quite happy with both tiles, but I do favor the beige.

Joey's Challenge #115, Roman Numeral XV

This marks the last week of Roman Numeral strings
for Joey's Weekly Challenge. I'll miss them;
I think it was a really fun format.

Here's Roman Numeral XV:

The tangles chosen are:

And this is what I did with them:

It's a String Thing #147

This week's String Thing, #147, uses this string by Adele Bruno:

and the following tangles:
Blooming Butter by Michele Beauchamp, CZT
Pixioze by Margaret Bremner, CZT
and
Zinger by Maria Thomas, Zentangle ® co-founder

Here's what I did with it:
